A Business Edition provides centralized administration, password-free updating, and a Big Sur installation that does not require users to approve the system extension. The upgrade also improves battery life up to 10% when Windows runs in Travel Mode, enables virtual machines to return unused disk space automatically when shutting down, brings full support for OpenGL 3.3 Compatibility Profile to support more Windows apps, adds a two-finger pinch trackpad gesture to rotate content in Windows 10 apps, and provides a refreshed Dark Mode look with better colors, contrasts, and fonts.Īlong with the standard edition, Parallels Desktop is available in a Pro Edition that offers Visual Studio integration, the capability to assign up to 32 virtual CPUs and 128 GB of virtual RAM to each virtual machine, and a rich command-line interface. In August, Parallels released version 16.0 of its Parallels Desktop for Mac virtualization software with support for macOS 11 Big Sur, a refreshed design that’s consistent with Big Sur, and speedier performance: launching up to twice as fast as version 15 and resuming Windows up to 20% faster. #1644: Explaining Mastodon and the Fediverse, HomePod Software 16.3 and tvOS 16.3, GoTo breach.#1645: AirPlay iPhone to Mac for remote video, Siri learns to restart iPhones, Apple's Q1 2023 financials.1646: Security-focused OS updates, Photos Workbench review, Mastodon client wishlist, Apple-related conferences.1647: Focus-caused notification issues, site-specific browser examples, virtualizing Windows on M-series Macs.#1648: iPhone passcode thefts, Center Cam improves webcam eye contact, APFS Uncertainty Principle.Parallels 11 also introduces a new “Travel Mode” that temporarily shuts down “resource intensive services”, with the aim of extending battery life. Battery life has also been improved by up to 15-percent, with suspend times getting a 20-percent efficiency boost and being noticeably faster executing common tasks throughout Windows. For those running a virtualized version of Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, the team behind Parallels 11 states that boot time and shutdown time can be as much as 50-percent faster. Parallels 11 also comes with a plethora of additional features and improvements that should entice new users, and convince existing users to part with $49.99 for the upgrade. The latest release offers support for both of those platforms by implementing full compatibility support for El Capitan with the ability to seamlessly run Windows 10 in a virtual machine on Apple’s latest desktop platform. It also managed to raise excitement levels for those who were patiently waiting for official support for Apple’s OS X El Capitan operating system and Microsoft’s fabulous Windows 10. Last month’s leak of the features and functionality within Parallels 11 kind of gave the game away about what fans of the software could expect. That said, the company’s latest iteration of its virtual machine software, Parallels Desktop 11, is now officially available for Mac OS X users. Unfortunately for Parallels that’s exactly what happened last month, with the difference being that it was actually an internal leak that let the cat out of the bag. It is very rare that a large company offering a popular application or service can work on a substantial upgrade to that product without some of the information leaking into the public domain prior to release.
